Collection-forming is one of the core activities of a museum, and the Stedelijk reflects on the formation of its holdings in multiple ways. From this perspective, the Stedelijk has invited Rudi Fuchs, a former director of the museum, to curate an exhibition in his unique, distinctive way, and to look back on the collections he built throughout his lengthy career and his contribution to the development of the Dutch state art collection. In a specially-designed installation occupying the ground floor of the new wing, Fuchs will present a large selection of the works he acquired, from the Stedelijk Museum, Van Abbemuseum and Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. Rudi Fuchs was always concerned with the tangible artworks, the objects themselves which he describes as “the true things” that accompanied Fuchs on his journey.
