Congratulations to Rae Hicks, Juliette Losq, Mandy Payne, Alessandro Raho and Rose Wylie, who were today announced as the five shortlisted artists for the £25,000 John Moores Painting Prize.
Set up in 1957, the biennial prize champions celebrates the best of contemporary painting. Previous winners include the likes of David Hockney, Peter Doig, John Hoyland and Bruce McLean. The shortlist has been selected from a group of 50 artists whose work is currently on display at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. The winner will be announced on 19 September.
