Garden Sculptures leave a bitter taste
The Art Newspaper has reported that inadequate insurance taken out by Lancaster city council has put paid to a public art project by US artist Mark Dion. 21 Bronze sculptures, by local sculptor Robert Williams, have been stolen. The sculptures were part of an art project called The Tasting Garden, a public garden created in 1998 by Mark Dion for the inaugural Artranspennine exhibition organised by Tate Liverpool and the Henry Moore Institute. The Tasting Garden consisted of a series of pathways leading to a fruit tree and a plinth alongside it showing a sculpture of the tree's fruit. Says Dion, 'The idea was that when the garden matured, visitors could taste their way through it.'
