For this year’s Met Roof Garden Commission, the Argentinian artist Adrián Villar Rojas installed 3D replicas of objects from the museum’s collection above Central Park. Villar Rojas, whose work meditates on the world’s past and future ruin, is best known for large-scale projects that challenge the spaces for which he creates them. In 2009, he placed a life-size clay whale in a forest in Patagonia; his Documenta 13 installation, Return the World (2012), took over the Weinberg Terraces in Kassel; and as part of the 2015 Istanbul Biennial, he stationed 17 animal sculptures at the edge of the sea of Marmara.
