Through installations featuring sculptural objects, and occasionally video or photography, Alicja Kwade investigates the laws of physics and the boundaries of time and space to evoke dimensions we cannot yet perceive. A strong surrealist current runs through her work, as seen in Against the Run (2015), a Public Art Fund commission for New York’s Central Park, which featured a rotated clock that interrupted the instinctive process of time telling. Kwade won the Piepenbrock Prize for Sculpture in 2008 and has since shown widely, including at the Whitechapel Gallery in 2016–17, and the 57th Venice Biennale. She is currently working towards solo exhibitions at the Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen and EMMA, Helsinki.
