Gallery@ The Civic presents an exhibition to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Brassed Off being filmed in Barnsley. The bittersweet gem released in November 1996, is a charming and comedic drama starring Ewan McGregor, Pete Postlethwaite and Tara Fitzgerald, and was filmed on location in Grimethorpe. The film highlights government cutbacks threatening a century old mine, and the outcome; closure of the pit and the subsequent death of a town. With Barnsley’s strong history of brass band communities, this exhibition of two halves has been created to venerate the occasion. Read more.
