Gainsborough’s Family Album

National Portrait Gallery, London

NOW CLOSED

The British artist made his name (and living) with high-society portraits, yet he also produced more known portraits of his family than any artist of his time or before. This exhibition focuses on some 50 of these intimate works, which depict the artist’s daughters at various stages of youth and adolescence, members of Gainsborough’s extended family from nephews to brothers-in-law, and the family pets – such as his wife Margaret’s dogs, Tristram and Fox. Find out more about ‘Gainsborough’s Family Album’ from the National Portrait Gallery’s website.
