Talk: ‘Modern Figures: The Body in Contemporary British Painting’

London Art Fair, the Business Design Centre, Islington

NOW CLOSED

London Art Fair
Friday 23 January: 2.30pm–3.30pm

What role does the body play in British painting today? Is there still a place for traditional skills such as anatomy drawing, or for genres like ‘the nude’? How is the influence of modern masters, such as Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon, revealed when contemporary artists represent the human figure? And is the body still an important subject for artists working today?

Thomas Marks, Editor of Apollo magazine will chair this session and will be joined by Simon Martin (Artistic Director, Pallant House Gallery), Marco Livingstone (art historian and curator), and artists Caroline Walker and David Dawson.
