Apollo

Thonet & Design

Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich

NOW CLOSED

By inventing a machine for bending wood with steam in the 1830s, Michael Thonet became the first to mass-produce elegant yet inexpensive furniture. Popular models like his ‘bistro chair’ – still in production after more than 150 years – are displayed here alongside the word of recent designers. Find out more from the Pinakotheken website.
