The new exhibition will celebrate Valeska Soares’ influence on the development of installation art, while introducing visitors to the social, political, and personal aspects of her minimal, conceptual work. Soares is part of an important generation of artists who began exhibiting professionally in Brazil during the late 1980s and early 1990s, following on from the Neo-Concrete movement of the 1960s. Their work insisted on the importance of subjectivity in art. Taking inspiration from the environmental installations of the late Hélio Oiticica in particular, Soares’ installations integrate sight, touch, and scent. ‘Any Moment Now’ will feature iconic works from Soares’ career that interweave themes of memory, desire, poetry, love, and longing.
