One of the most important and influential artists working in China today, Zeng Fanzhi (b. 1964, Wuhan) has consistently sought new possibilities from oil painting that reflect both his inquisitive spirit and the broader social and cultural situation of his country. Beginning with the exaggerated realism and deep social concern of early works depicting meat and hospital scenes, the exhibition moves to a major section dedicated to portraiture, including his signature “Mask” series.
