Brett Weston

20 July 2022

Works by the American photographer Brett Weston, who was renowned for his images of nature and the Californian landscape, take centre stage at the San Jose Museum of Art (22 July–22 January 2023). Drawn from the SJMA’s permanent collections, the 51 photographs on display span the photographer’s career from the 1930s through to the ’70s. Presenting three of Weston’s major portfolios, the exhibition includes Baja California (1967), which features close-up, abstracted works of tree roots and rock faces, reflecting Weston’s admiration for artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Henry Moore. In contrast to these abstracted works, more conventional landscape photographs such as Mono Lake, California (1966) show another side of the photographer. Find out more on the SJMA’s website.
