Markus Lüpertz’s Genesis mural for Karlsruhe gets the green light | Markus Lüpertz has been given the go-ahead to create a multi-part mural depicting the story of Genesis in the subway stations of Karlsruhe. The public artwork has been the subject of heated debate since it was first proposed, with some figures debating the use of public money to fund the presentation of religious imagery. Critics of the scheme say that the mural is ‘incongruous with a secular, multicultural society’, reports ArtNet.

Banksy work named UK’s favourite work of art | Banksy’s mural Girl with a Balloon has been voted the UK’s favourite work of art by a survey canvassing 2,000 people, reports the Guardian. The image, which first appeared in London in 2002, was voted top over works such as John Constable’s The Hay Wain, JMW Turner’s The Fighting Temeraire and contemporary works including Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North. Jack Vettriano’s The Singing Butler was voted the nation’s third favourite artwork.

Activists demand that Boston’s ICA cancel Dana Schutz show | Eight activists have petitioned Boston’s ICA to cancel a show devoted to artist Dana Schutz, reports wbur. Schutz faced widespread criticism when her painting Open Casket was exhibited at the Whitney Biennial, and although the work in question will not be part of the exhibition, some have asked whether a decision to mount a solo show of her work is ‘appropriate or responsible’.
