LaToya Ruby Frazier

1 September 2015

Inspired by the documentary photography of Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange and others, LaToya Ruby Frazier began taking photographs of people in her hometown of Braddock, Pennsylvania at the age of 16. She has continued to do so since, also working with film and performance to chronicle the social effects of deindustrialisation and inequality on the lives of individuals and communities. Frazier has exhibited and lectured widely in the US and beyond, and in 2014 was awarded a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Her work is housed in public collections including MoMA and the National Library of Congress, Washington.
