The summer months present the perfect opportunity to explore works spread across nearly 300 acres of rolling countryside at Glenstone, a museum and sculpture park in Potomac, Maryland. One of the largest private museums in the United States, Glenstone’s vast holdings of 20th- and 21st-century art includes permanent installations by the likes of Ellsworth Kelly, Michael Heizer and Richard Serra. Seasonal highlights include the 37-foot-tall Split-Rocker (2000) by Jeff Koons, which features live flowering plants that appear through its stainless steel structure between the months of May and October. An audio installation FOREST (for a thousand years…) (2012) by Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, which consists of 22 loud speakers mounted among the trees, will also run throughout summer.
