As Chairperson of Qatar Museums since 2006, HE Sheikha Al Mayassa oversees a group of museums and heritage sites including Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Islamic Art, and the new National Museum of Qatar, which opened earlier this year. She has a considerable acquisitions budget at her disposal to enrich the collections of these institutions, and has been as attentive to fostering local crafts and audiences for art as she has to bringing international art and artists to Qatar. She also chairs the Doha Film Institute and Reach Out to Asia, which works to educate young people affected by natural disasters across Asia and beyond.
