Zoe Whitley

38 | Curator, International Art, Tate Modern, London, UK

As curator of international art at Tate Modern, before which she was a Tate research curator, Zoe Whitley is committed to presenting a global perspective on art. Last summer she co-curated the hugely successful ‘Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power’ at Tate Modern, an exploration of black American art. Growing up in the US, Whitley decided to pursue a career in the arts, prompted by a J. Paul Getty grant and Mellon Fellowship for research at LACMA, after which she enrolled at London’s RCA and spent a decade working at the V&A. This year she completed her PhD under the supervision of Lubaina Himid and was named as the curator of the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2019, where she will work alongside Cathy Wilkes.
