Academic credibility and entrepreneurial flair are seldom spoken of in the same breath, but since completing his PhD at the Courtauld Institute of Arts, Noah Horowitz has proved they are far from mutually exclusive. As director of the Armory Show from 2011–15, he sharpened up the gallery list and brought in many first-time exhibitors, boosting the quality of the fair to such an extent that this summer he was poached by Art Basel to become its first Director of the Americas. His study about the contemporary art market, Art of the Deal, was critically acclaimed when it was published in 2011.
