A fascinating selection of African art and cultural objects tours to LACMA this autumn. For millennia the sun, moon and stars have been used as navigational tools, to inform our calendars, and as a focus for countless religious and spiritual beliefs. This display – originally coordinated by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art – brings together a variety of exhibits, from Yoruba divination instruments to contemporary art, to explore how the cosmos has inspired African art throughout history.
