Smethwick Galton Bridge / Portrait of a Station

In 2013, over the course of a year, Alex Drozd photographed the landscape surrounding Smethwick Galton Bridge railway station as it changed from season to season. Through the rectangular plastic windows that border the upper platform, the resulting photographs are a record of the views that are framed by the station’s architecture. At the same time, these scratched and weathered panes help to obscure rather than reveal the natural environment beyond, creating an abstracted image that has a beauty of its own.
