Helen Frankenthaler and J.M.W. Turner
Curated by James Hamilton, this unlikely pairing of Turner’s much-loved 19th-century work with Frankenthaler’s less well-known (in the UK) Abstract Expressionist painting celebrates the enduring appeal of landscape in art, and the vibrancy with which both artists have approached it. Emphasising ‘values common to both’ artists, it should draw out some unexpected parallels, or at least make for a lively set of contrasts and confluences.
