Wifredo Lam is known for his mutually fruitful, intellectual and creative friendship with Pablo Picasso. With his Cuban upbringing, and Chinese as well as Afro-Caribbean roots, Lam developed a unique painting style. Having traveled the world extensively and living in Havana, Madrid, Paris and Albissola, Lam’s work synthesized the influence of European modernist avant-garde with ancient religious and cultural cults of Cuba and the Caribbean.
