Few artists have captured the disturbing ubiquity of social media and reality television quite like Texas-born Ryan Trecartin. As he sees it, these new modes of interaction and performance have fundamentally changed how we relate to the world around us. Trecartin explores these ideas through unsettling videos and installations, which are often made in collaboration with artistic partner Lizzie Fitch and are characterised by grotesque characters, nonsense dialogue and alarming imagery. His work has been shown widely across the globe, including at MoMA PS1 and at the 55th Venice Biennale.
