Sam Thorne

27 August 2014

Today’s curators don’t all follow predetermined career paths. Prior to his appointment as artistic director of Tate St Ives in early 2014, Sam Thorne was associate editor of frieze magazine and, in 2013, co-founder of Open School East, an independent study programme in East London offering free studios and tuition to artists. Tate has entrusted him with the delivery of one of its major ongoing projects: a £12 million extension, which will double the gallery space in the Cornish museum, is due for completion in 2015.
