Beyond St Ives

Abbot Hall opened in 1962 at a critical time for the evolution of painting in this country. Coinciding with our main summer exhibition, Taking Flight: St Ives in the 1950s, this display will highlight some of the key acquisitions from this period, revealing the next chapter in the careers of artists based in St Ives, including Roger Hilton and Trevor Bell, as well as showing how other painters, such as leading American abstract expressionist, Helen Frankenthaler, were influenced by developments taking place in the south west of England.
