Despite important commissions during his lifetime, Carlo Portelli (died 1574 and active mainly in Florence) received little critical acclaim. This reassessment comprises 50 works including all his known drawings, but the focal point is the Accademia’s monumental Immaculate Conception altarpiece, dated 1566.
