Parties and pleasures in the time of Madame de Pompadour
This exhibition pays tribute to the genre of the “Fête galante”, popularised by Antoine Watteau (1684-1721), which experienced undeniable success across France and Europe throughout the Enlightenment.
Responding to a thirst for freedom and the relaxation of morals during the Régence period, this theme proclaimed the joy of living, the delights of love, the alchemy of feelings and the need to see and be seen.
