Sculptures by modern giants, such as Constantin Brancusi’s The First Cry (1917), and Alberto Giacometti’s stretched Femme Debout (1957), sit on the Whitechapel Gallery floor alongside contemporary works by the likes of Pawel Althamer and Petr Galadzhev, in Mike Nelson’s selection of works from the V-A-C collection. Gathered together informally, ‘on common ground’, the artist’s display introduces the work and shows them in a new light.
