Otto Piene: More Sky

Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin

NOW CLOSED

The German artist and co-founder of the influential ZERO group is honoured in this collaborative exhibition Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle. The experimental artist is best known for his smoke pictures (canvases burnt with candles and torches), fire paintings (for which he burnt pigmented paper and used the soot as his medium), and light installations. This exhibition focuses on his work from the 1960s and ’70s, formative decades in his long career.

Otto Piene died on 17 July, shortly after the opening of this exhibition. On 19 July the opening Sky Art Event, planned with Piene, went ahead in his memory.
