This exhibition is a retrospective of Belgian artist René Magritte (1898 –1967), one of the foremost painters of the 20th century. Known as a great master of Surrealism, Magritte achieved a unique artistic style that strongly influenced 20th-century art and design and, even today, continues to fascinate people throughout the world. This will be one of the most comprehensive Magritte exhibitions ever held, and the first such exhibition in Japan since 2002. Through the joint cooperation of the Magritte Museum, which opened in Brussels in 2009 as a part of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Magritte Foundation, and the organizers in Japan, the exhibition will feature some 130 works from art museums and private collections in more than 10 countries.
