NOW CLOSED

War Photographs, 1943 – 45

Robert Capa’s war photographs shape the canon of “spectacular image,” which was emerging with the development of mass media in the 20th century. His work established the lived and staged immediacy of the image as proof of authenticity in photojournalism. The exhibition traces more than 110 photographs of the years 1943 to 1945 and news magazines in which these images of his time have been published, and the path of accredited photographers with the Allied Military Europe, from landing in Sicily and landed in France to advance to Germany in the last months of the war.
