This is Not a Love Song: Video Art and Pop Music Crossovers

Pera Museum, Istanbul

NOW CLOSED

Curated by Javier Panera, the exhibition traces a genealogy of the relationship between pop music and video-creation from the 1960’s to the present day. Works of 28 influential creators -Nam June Paik, Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Vito Acconci and John Baldessari among others-, show how different generations of visual artists have integrated elements that are related with the imaginaries of pop music. The various pieces highlight those moments in which both art and music practices influenced one another, blurring their boundaries and fostering experimentation and even the politically incorrect.
