Heinrich Kühn’s Cabinet

Museum Folkwang, Essen

NOW CLOSED

Or the Photographer’s Love for his Materials

At the heart of this exhibition stands a wonderful cabinet designed by the Wiener Werkstätten. Kühn (1866–1944) had made it to store his collection of papers. The exhibition not only pays tribute to the leading representative of European Pictorialism around 1900, but also gives a impression of the sensual quality of a kind of photography that sought to be like painting.
