This week’s competition prize is The Young Dürer: Drawing the Figure (Paul Holberton Publishing, £30)

This publication examines the early figure drawings of the extraordinary northern renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528). Focusing on his ‘journeyman years’, it reveals how Dürer combined the achievements of other artists with the close study of nature, including his own body, to forge an ambitious new approach to the depiction of the human figure. These remarkable early drawings formed the foundations of a career in which Dürer would go on to redirect the course of German art and achieve international fame. This catalogue includes scholarly essays as well as a technical essay co-authored by an interdisciplinary team of scientists, conservators and art historians presenting new research on Dürer’s inks.

For your chance to win simply answer the following question and submit your details below before midday on 1 November 2013.

Which famous contemporary of Dürer praised his ability to express ‘the whole mind of man as it reflects itself in the behaviour of the body’?

To enter the competition, send your answer to bookcomp@apollomag.com, along with your full name and postal address. Please also let us know if you would prefer not to receive email newsletters and competition announcements from Apollo in the future.
