Joan Weinstein becomes director of Getty Foundation | The Getty Foundation announced yesterday the appointment of Joan Weinstein as director of the grants-giving organisation. Weinstein has worked at the foundation since 1994 and served as its deputy director since 2007; she succeeds Deborah Marrow, who retired last December after a tenure of more than three decades.
Pace Gallery closes Beijing outpost | Pace Gallery has closed its 22,000-square-foot location in Beijing’s arts district, citing business difficulties caused by the ongoing trade conflict between the United States and China. ‘It’s impossible to do business in mainland China right now and it has been for awhile,’ said Arne Glimcher, Pace’s founder. The space was opened in 2008 to coincide with that year’s Beijing Olympics; Pace will maintain its two Hong Kong locations.
Tania Bruguera to launch investigative journalism initiative in Cuba | At Manchester International Festival on Monday, artist Tania Bruguera announced plans to offer grants, prizes, and workshops in investigative journalism at the Institute of Artivism Hannah Arendt, an organisation she founded in Havana in 2015. Bruguera has also campaigned against Cuba’s controversial Decree 349, a cultural censorship law that went into effect last year.
