January is still with us, but already the Beckham family have had a year to put the rest of us to shame. Footballer David has been given the honour of featuring as the 75th anniversary interviewee on Desert Island Discs, while his wife, the designer Victoria Beckham, has been awarded an OBE for services to fashion.
One might suspect that, for their offspring, all this might be a hard act to follow. Not a bit of it. Step forward 17-year-old Brooklyn, whose passions appear to be more aesthetic than athletic. Late last year, Penguin Random House announced that he would soon be releasing a book of his own photography entitled What I See. According to the publisher, the tome will ‘offer his followers a rare glimpse at the world through his eyes’ – and who could possibly refuse?
Rakewell regrets that he will have to wait until the book’s publication in May for said ‘glimpse’, but Brooklyn, thank goodness, is not slouching on the art front. Last Tuesday evening, the precocious teen turned up to the launch of a street art exhibition by artist Endless and the Buster + Punch design team. Brooklyn, his face half hidden in a hoodie, was pictured clutching a can of spraypaint and, for reasons yet to be deciphered, mugged for the camera in front of a Gilbert & George poster.
