Goya in London
Regozijo (Mirth) (c. 1819–23), Francisco Goya
It will be a fantastic year for Goya. From the 26 February–25 May the Courtauld Gallery will run an exhibition of Goya’s ‘Witches and Old Women Album’. The curators have gathered together all 22 of the surviving drawings from this important album alongside other related drawings and prints. Later the National Gallery will run ‘Goya: The Portraits’ (7 October–10 January 2016), the first major exhibition ever devoted to Goya’s portraits.
‘Drawing in Venice: Titian to Canaletto’ at the Ashmolean Museum
A triumphant demonstration that far from brilliant colour and fine brushwork eclipsing draughtsmanship in Venetian art, you can trace a continuing tradition of drawing from Bellini to Canaletto. Wonderful loans from Uffizi and Christ Church Oxford complement Ashmolean’s own drawings.
