Jordan Casteel’s first solo museum show explores the young painter’s candid portraits of African Americans, from the male figures in her early scenes set on city streets and subways to more recent paintings of women at work. Works on display include Casteel’s series from 2017, Nights in Harlem, and Benyam (2018), which depicts a matriarch in a family-run Ethiopian restaurant.
