Here is Elsewhere: Sarah Wood

Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge

NOW CLOSED

The following information is accurate at time of publication. In light of the evolving Covid-19 situation visitors are advised to check museums’ websites for further updates.

Film-maker Sarah Wood’s new commission for Kettle’s Yard explores the effects of lockdown on the mind – in particular, the ways in which our imaginations have adapted to the effects of stillness and isolation to keep us psychologically connected with outside world. Here is Elsewhere draws together early footage of Lumière brothers’ first cinematic experiments with home-movies and contemporary drone footage; this combination of new and archive material mirrors how the imagination draws on the conscious and subconscious mind. A pendant to this work, The Unmade Film, is also on show; this ‘film without images’ consists of texts by film-makers and writers, including Luke Fowler, Olivia Laing and Ali Smith, who each describe a single scene that encourages the viewer to reflect on the nature of vision. Find out more from Kettle’s Yard’s website.
